It Remains Faithful to the Original Watch

At the 2009 Baselworld fair in Basel, Switzerland, released two new model lines to celebrate the 40th birthday for the El Primero movement. These replica watches will be only be available in 2009 and will be produced in limited and numbered editions. As you would expect, both model lines use the El Primero movement which – like most things – has been improved and refined over the years but still has the same basic DNA.

The Originals model line is very similar to the original 1969 El Primero watch with its distinctive date window between 4 and 5 o’clock on the dial as well as other details such as the crown, pushers, hands and dial. One area where the new Original differs is that the 3 sub dials now slightly overlap each other but the overall impression is of a very similar, retro styled fake watches that remains faithful to the original watch.

The other model line released at Baselworld was the New Vintage 1969. The three sub dials on this model range do not overlap and have an El Primero jubilee logo placed at the 7 o’clock position on the dial. The New Vintage 1969 also have a see-through case back where you can appreciate the El Primero movement behind the sapphire crystal glass. It’s easy to spot variations of this model as they feature a stripe on the dial in traditional Zenith colours.
